ALL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN
APPLY TO BE A PART OF JODY’S YOUTH COUNCIL!
Your MP wants to hear from you! What are the issues that matter to you? What changes do you hope to see? This is an exciting opportunity for youth to share their thoughts directly with their Member of Parliament (MP), the Hon. Jody Wilson-Raybould, and create meaningful change in their community.
Now entering its third program year, the CYC brings together young people to engage with their federal government through activities such as policy cafes on the issues that matter most to them, learning opportunities with community leaders and organizations featuring local initiatives, and team projects designed by CYC participants to give back to our community.
The CYC has two main components: policy discussions and community engagement. Once a month, all members will meet to have a policy discussion on a topic of their choosing. In addition, Council members will also have the choice to be involved in the planning of a local community project. This initiative will be decided by the members of the Council with the aim of positively impacting the Vancouver Granville community.
In recent years, we welcomed eleven active members who organized a Volunteer Fair. By inviting local community groups to meet with young people, the CYC was able to facilitate relationships and expose their peers to volunteer opportunities in the community. This year, we welcomed eighteen active members who organized a Youth Forum for Gender Equality. By inviting professionals in the community, workshops and panels were set up to invite conversation and learning opportunities.
Members will attend meetings either bi-weekly or once a month, depending on their level of involvement. The CYC will run from Fall 2018 to Summer of 2019. Please refer to the Vancouver-Granville-CYC-FAQs for more information and logistical details.
