Statement by the Hon. Jody Wilson-Raybould
Member of Parliament for Vancouver Granville on Yom HaShoah
At sundown tonight, Jewish communities in our community of Vancouver Granville, and across the country, will unite to mourn and honour the victims and survivors of the Holocaust.
In commemorating the lives of the six million Jewish people who were systematically murdered by the Nazis during the Holocaust, we honour their stories and reaffirm our commitment to stand up against racism and intolerance, to refuse to be silent in the face of injustice and hate, and to uphold human rights and human dignity.
The abominable acts of violence and discrimination experienced at the hands of the Nazis must never be forgotten. Indeed, as Canadians, it is our responsibility to never stand silent in the face of prejudice and discrimination, and bring meaning to the vow: “never again”.
